Christ "Chris" N. Coumanis founded the firm of Coumanis & York, P.C. in 2009 with David York, the former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Born in Mobile, Alabama, Mr. Coumanis has practiced in the Mobile-Baldwin County area since beginning his legal career.
A magna cum laude graduate of Springhill College, Mr. Coumanis earned his law degree from Tulane Law School in 1988. Upon completing law school, he served five years as an Assistant District Attorney in Mobile County where he prosecuted more than 75 jury trials, ranging from violent crimes to complex white collar crimes. In 1994, Coumanis entered private practice with a respected statewide general litigation firm in Mobile and became a member of that firm in 2000 before co-founding Coumanis & York.
Mr. Coumanis is a member of the Mobile Bar Association, Alabama Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the South Alabama Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association of Justice, the Mobile County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He served as Treasurer for the Mobile Bar Association in 2008. Mr. Coumanis also has been selected for inclusion in the American Inns of Court, the Paul W. Brock Chapter and by his peers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, and has earned the AV Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.
