Client Testimonial
Would you like to know what’s it like to hire Christ Coumanis, of Coumanis and York for your criminal matter?
Read an interview with the wife of one of his most recent clients:
Please tell us your name and nature of your case.
“My Name is Lori Bozeman. My Husband was arrested January 12, 2022 & detained in Federal custody and has been since February 1, 2022
He was charged in Federal Court in the Western District of Louisiana, Lafayette Division in a 2-count indictment with Count 1: Transportation of Destructive Devices in Violation of the National Firearms Act and Count 2 Possession of Devices, each carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years each but also, charged by the State of Louisiana, Iberia Parish with state court charges of Possession of a Bomb (3 Counts); Criminal Trespass, Aggravated Arson (3 Counts) and Terrorism. Ultimately, Christ was able to get the State to dismiss the Louisiana State Court charges and negotiate a Plea Agreement to one count in the federal case.”
This was a really big case. It was covered by USNews and World Report. Was your husband facing a lot of jail time?
“My husband was looking at a lengthy prison sentence in both federal and state court prosecutions in a case that was pretty much “lock shut” on the evidence and basically indefensible at trial. Our hope was that Christ would be able to convince the Courts that a lenient sentence below the Advisory Guideline range was appropriate given my husband’s spotless criminal record and this was aberrant behavior on his part so that the Court would impose a sentence below the Federal Guideline imprisonment range of 46 to 57 months that applied to his case.”
How did your husband’s arrest effect you and your family?
“Life shattering!! I was fearful for myself facing questions from ATF Agents & the unknown of the court system & how much time my Husband could serve, I was devastated!”
How did you hear about Christ?
“My Husband’s Nephew studied Law at the University of Alabama and he reached out to his good friend of his who practices law in Birmingham and also reached out University of Alabama law professor friend for a recommendation for a federal criminal defense attorney and both gave us Christ’s name. I called Christ and quickly set up an appointment in a matter of 2 days.”
What has your experience working with Christ been like?
“With all his heart! I felt he took this case personally. My Husband has a loving and supportive family, and Christ was very aware of this and was willing to talk to any of us whenever we had questions or did not understand something. Christ formed a relationship with my Husband’s 87 yr.-old Father who was struggling with what had taken place and Christ was always open to receiving phone calls and even accepted text messages and phone calls from him at crazy hours even on Sunday while Christ was in church.
Christ recognized the pain of a disheartened parent, my father-in-law, and made time for him. From our initial meeting, I was confident that Christ was straight-up & honest with me. He never gave me false hope – not always what I wanted to hear.) He prepared my brain that the outcome could be dreadful. Christ always kept me up to date on any change of direction on the case & made me aware of some of the research he was working on.”
Are you happy with the outcome of your husband’s case?
“Knowing how things could have played out, I am extremely happy. My Husband received 19 months. On sentencing day, he had already served 7 months and a few days, with time served he was sentenced to 12 months.”
Hopefully, you won’t have too, but would you hire Coumanis and York again?
“Absolutely!”
Would you recommend the Coumanis and York law firm to others?
“In a heartbeat!”
